Dogs in play park

Fun dog play park launched at pet store

An adventure play park allowing dogs to play, exercise and socialise has been launched by a Cumbrian pet store.

WCF Pet & Equestrian is set to open the Lakes Collection Dog Play Park at its Ulverston store on July 16, providing a safe space for dogs to run about freely and utilise a range of agility equipment.

The purpose-built area is surrounded by secure fencing and can accommodate a maximum of four dogs at any one time, encouraging pets to socialise and play with others.

Alternatively, dog owners can book the area out for the sole use of their four-legged friend if their pet is uncomfortable around others.

Jade Earley, general manager of WCF Pet & Equestrian, said: "As pet lovers who are passionate about all animals, we wanted to create a space where people can bring their dogs to run around and play in a safe, fun environment.

"Because our stores are dog friendly, a lot of owners bring their pets into the shops to socialise with others so we thought it would be great for them to have their own designated outdoors area.

"The Lakes Collection Dog Play Park is secured with fencing and is equipped with dog agility obstacles and a range of toys, so this is the perfect place for dogs to exercise, play and let off a bit of steam.

"There are lots of great dog parks in fields dotted around, but it's good to offer something central in town which makes it more convenient for owners who can include this activity when they're doing their shopping or visiting our store.

"We're very excited to open the play area for dogs, and we know it's going to be a huge hit with animals and their humans alike."

Sessions last 50 minutes and up to four dogs can use the park at the same time. Bookings can be made either in store or by calling (01229) 582401.

WCF Pet & Equestrian has eight stores and hopes to open a Lakes Collection Dog Play Park at each site following the launch of the ventures at Ulverston and Cockermouth. The stores are located in Penrith and Wigton, in Cumbria, Castle Douglas in Dumfries & Galloway, Skipton in North Yorkshire and Claughton in Lancashire.
